What drives the price
The four things that move bathroom cost most
Before you ask for a quote, it helps to know which decisions move the number the most. These are the four we see make the biggest difference.
Size and layout changes
Keeping the existing layout is the cheapest path. Moving the WC or shower means re-running soil and water pipework — more labour, more time, but sometimes worth it.
Tiling area and tile choice
Floor-to-ceiling porcelain costs more than half-tiled walls with paint above. Large-format and natural stone tiles take longer to cut and lay than standard porcelain.
Brassware and suite
A premium brass thermostatic shower set with rainfall and handheld heads can be £400–£1,200 alone. The same applies to taps, vanity and WC choices.
Wet room vs walk-in shower
A full wet room (tanked floor and walls, level-access drain) costs more than a walk-in shower tray for the same footprint because the waterproofing and floor build-up are more involved.
